The Domestic Partnership registry is intended to assist unmarried adult couples who reside or are employed within the Los Angeles County and who are applying for domestic partnership benefits from employers.

The Statement of Domestic Partnership is public record.


Important Information to Know Before Filing

  • Filing for a domestic partnership is NOT the same as filing for a marriage license
  • Los Angeles County’s local program is separate and distinct from the State of California’s Domestic Partnership Program
  • Filing of domestic partnership within Los Angeles County is NOT the same as filing for domestic partnership with the State of California’s Domestic Partnership Program

  • State registration forms are available on the Secretary of State’s website and at the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk
  • Those currently in a domestic partnership under the County's local program must complete a statement of termination of domestic partnership if they plan on applying for a marriage license
  • Information on terminating a domestic partnership filed with the State, please refer to the Secretary of State's website

County Statement of Domestic Partnership

Couples wishing to file a Statement of Domestic Partnership may file with the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk's Office. The registry is intended to assist unmarried adult couples applying for domestic partnership benefits from employers.

Couples wishing to register must both be 18 years of age or older and at least one partner must reside or work within Los Angeles County.
